
Second, we propose an adaptable evaluation framework based on a set of criteria weighted according to user needs. The viewer supports extensions that implement functionalities and front-ends for specific use cases. First, we present Starviewer, a DICOM viewer developed in C++ with a core component built on top of open-source libraries. Moreover, this work provides a framework that can be applied to new medical interaction systems. We conclude, through user analysis and evaluation, that our methods, techniques and developments are satisfactory. The work involves the development and design of a user interface for automatic detection, segmentation and classification from breast MG, US and MRI, as well as, textual data notations and information visualisation. This user interface allows the combination of MG, US, MRI and Text Data to assist the clinician in establishing the diagnosis.

In this work, we used interaction techniques to build a user interface adapted to the standard needs of a radiology room. It also reduces the number of unnecessary biopsies, leading to better patient care and lower healthcare costs.

Nevertheless, their combination can significantly increase diagnostic accuracy. The fact that no single modality has high enough sensitivity for a reliable diagnosis supports the need for multi-modal imaging in breast cancer diagnosis. The current workflow applied in breast cancer diagnosis involves several imaging multimodalities. The primary strategy to reduce mortality is early detection and treatment based on medical imaging technologies. Our evaluation shows that advanced visualization and suitable interfaces can also be found in the open source field and not only in commercial products.īreast cancer is one of the most commonly occurring types of cancer among women. Weasis is superior for workflow optimization in clinical trials. Focusing on open source components, MIPAV is the best candidate for 3D imaging as well as DICOM communication. Interfaces needed for decentral viewing in web-based systems are offered by Oviyam, Weasis, and Xero. The viewers ImageJ, MicroView, MIPAV, and OsiriX Lite offer all included 3D-rendering features for advanced viewing. Suitable DICOM interfaces for central viewing in hospitals are provided by GingkoCADx, MIPAV, and OsiriX Lite. On the average, 4.48 and 1.43 of overall 8 2D and 5 3D image viewing criteria are satisfied, respectively. They include (i) platform, (ii) interface, (iii) support, (iv) two-dimensional (2D), and (v) three-dimensional (3D) viewing. The evaluation criteria are obtained from application scenarios in clinical research rather than patient care. In this paper, a comprehensive evaluation of 28 DICOM viewers is performed.
